Frequently Asked Questions
A blacklist (also called blocklist) is a database of IP addresses or domains known to send spam or engage in malicious activity. Email servers and security systems check these lists to block unwanted traffic and protect users.
Common reasons include: sending spam (intentionally or through compromised accounts), malware infections, open mail relays, poor email list hygiene, sudden high email volume, or sharing an IP with spammers on shared hosting.
Each blacklist has its own delisting process. Generally: 1) Identify and fix the issue that caused the listing, 2) Visit the blacklist's website, 3) Submit a delisting request, 4) Some lists auto-delist after the issue is resolved.
Spamhaus, Barracuda, SORBS, and SpamCop are among the most widely used. Being listed on these can significantly impact email deliverability. Google Safe Browsing affects web traffic rather than email.
